Linguistic and Discursive Rights in Belgian Marriage Migration Gatekeeping Investigations
Mercredi 21 mars 2018, de 15h à 16h30, salle H1220, pavillon Henry F. Hall, Université Concordia (1455, Maisonneuve O., Montréal)
Based on ethnographically gathered data, the conference will look into Belgium’s municipal processes when investigating potential marriages of convenience. Through the scope of language, the applicants’ rights entitlement to interpreting services will be assessed, as well as the contextualization process and discursive consequences of their statements on their case’s decision-making.
