Allocution de Marc Garneau : « Canada’s Space Policy »

Mercredi 19 mars 2008
de 13h30 à 15h30, H-1220 (12e étage), Université Concordia, 1455 de Maisonneuve Ouest, métro Guy-Concordia

Canada should regard Space as a strategic asset from both a civilian and military perspective. Space allows it to fulfill certain national objectives related to communications, security, sovereignty, monitoring its resources, performing science, assisting in navigation and monitoring natural disasters on its territory and elsewhere.

Because of the importance of Space in meeting these objectives, Canada should actually formulate a National Space Policy as other countries are doing. Because Space is also a shared arena, Canada also needs to declare its position with respect to the international use of space, not only for civil but also for military purposes including the militarization of space or the use of concepts such as the U.S. Ballistic Missile Shield.
