Mritiunjoy Mohanty : Visiting Researcher with Institut d’études internationales de Montréal (IEIM), Mritiunjoy Mohanty is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta) in Kolkata, India. IIM Calcutta is one of India’s and Asia’s leading business schools.
His research interests include open economy macroeconomics, growth and structural change, international trade law and the political economy of growth. He has taught and lectured in universities and research institutions in Canada, India and Mexico. Prior to joining IIM Calcutta, he has worked for a development NGO (Myrada), the ILO and an economic policy think-tank of the Government of India.
He is also pro-bono economic advisor to a newly formed trade union grouping in India, the New Trade Union Initiative (NTUI). He is on leave from IIM Calcutta and is a Visiting Researcher with Institut d’études internationales de Montréal (IEIM) of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Montreal, Canada.
His recent publications are in the area of affirmative action and labour markets and structural change and land-use patterns (where he analysed the controversial acquisition of agricultural land in state of West Bengal). He is currently working on demand growth and structural change in India and the interconnections between democracy, development and equality.
